Devon Skating Club Rules & Regulations
The Devon Skating Club is committed to providing a safe, respectful, and positive environment where all members can learn, grow, and enjoy the sport of skating. By registering with the Club, members and their families agree to abide by the following Rules & Regulations.
⛸️ Code of Conduct
To foster a positive skating experience for everyone, all members, families, coaches, volunteers, and officials are expected to:
- Treat everyone with dignity, courtesy, and respect.
- Demonstrate good sportsmanship both on and off the ice.
- Support open, respectful, and constructive communication.
- Respect the authority and responsibilities of the Devon Skating Club Executive as outlined in the Club Bylaws.
- Conduct themselves in a manner that reflects positively on the Club.
Concerns regarding Club operations, coaching arrangements, or member conduct should be addressed respectfully and privately through the appropriate channels. Public disputes or behaviour that negatively impacts the Club environment will not be tolerated.
The Devon Skating Club Executive reserves the right to take disciplinary action, including suspension or removal from Club programs without refund, for repeated or serious violations of Club policies.
📋Club Administration
- The Devon Skating Club reserves the right to modify schedules, programs, events, or policies when necessary and in the best interest of the Club.
- Club policies may be updated periodically by the Executive to ensure the safe and effective operation of Club programs.
- Members must remain in good standing with both the Devon Skating Club and its coaching staff. Outstanding fees from previous seasons must be paid in full before registration for a new season will be accepted.
- Skaters registered in Devon Skating Club StarSkate programs are required to receive instruction from a Devon Skating Club coach.
💳 Registration & Fees
- Registration fees and required deposits must be paid within 30 days of registration unless otherwise specified.
- Skating privileges may be suspended until outstanding balances have been paid.
- The annual Skate Canada Membership Fee is mandatory for all registered skaters and is non-refundable.
- Refund requests are subject to the Club's Refund Policy.
- Some programs include volunteer and fundraising commitments. Details are outlined in each program description.
📧Communication and Conflict Resolution📱
The Devon Skating Club encourages respectful and timely communication between families, coaches, volunteers, and the Executive.
- Questions or concerns regarding coaching, programming, or Club operations should be discussed privately with the appropriate coach or Executive member as soon as possible.
- If concerns cannot be resolved, they may be referred to the Executive for review.
- Disagreements between skaters should be brought to the attention of the Coach Liaison and/or Club President.
- Decisions regarding a skater's training program, development, and on-ice conduct are made by the coach in consultation with the skater's family when appropriate.
⛑️Helmet Requirements
- All KidSkate and CanSkate skaters must wear a CSA-approved hockey helmet while on the ice.
- Bicycle helmets are not permitted.
- JumpStart skaters are required to wear a CSA-approved helmet unless otherwise directed by their coach.
- Junior and StarSkate skaters who choose to wear a helmet must also wear a CSA-approved hockey helmet.
If you are unsure whether your helmet meets safety requirements, please speak with one of our coaches before your session.
⛸️On-Ice Expectations
To ensure a safe and productive learning environment:
- Coaches have full authority during all on-ice sessions.
- Skaters are expected to follow all coach instructions promptly.
- Skaters may not leave the ice without permission from a coach.
- Coaches may remove a skater from the ice if their behaviour is unsafe or disruptive to others.
👀Parent and Spectator Expectations
Parents and family members are always welcome to watch skating sessions.
To help create the best learning environment, we ask that spectators:
- Watch from the arena seating or designated viewing areas.
- Refrain from standing at the boards or in the players' benches.
- Avoid communicating with skaters during lessons unless requested by a coach.
These guidelines help minimize distractions and allow skaters to focus on instruction.
🧥Skater Attire
Skaters should arrive dressed appropriately for their program.
🧤KidSkate & CanSkate
- Warm, comfortable clothing that allows unrestricted movement.
- CSA-approved hockey helmet.
- Mittens or gloves are required.
- Long hair should be securely tied back.
👗JumpStart, Junior, Intermediate & Senior Skate
- Appropriate skating attire, such as skating dresses, skirts, leggings, warm-up pants, or fitted athletic clothing.
- Test and competitive skaters should wear appropriate skating dresses or competition attire when required.
For all programs:
- Jeans and hooded sweatshirts are not permitted on the ice.
- Coaches may ask a skater to leave the ice if they are not dressed appropriately for safety or participation.
📱Social Media
Members are expected to use social media responsibly.
Posts or comments that are abusive, defamatory, or intentionally damaging toward the Devon Skating Club, its members, coaches, volunteers, or officials are inconsistent with the Club's Code of Conduct and may result in disciplinary action.
🚸Pick-up Policy
For the safety of our skaters, a member of the coaching staff will remain at the arena until all skaters have been picked up.
Families are expected to arrive promptly at the conclusion of each session.
If a skater is picked up late, the family will be charged a supervision fee of $10.00 for every 10 minutes that a coach is required to remain with the skater. An invoice will be issued and payment is due within 15 days.
🚨👤Emergency Contact Policy
The safety and well-being of our skaters is our highest priority. To ensure that coaches can respond appropriately in the event of an emergency while continuing to supervise all participants, the following emergency contact policy applies to all programs.
KidSkate & CanSkate
A parent or legal guardian must remain at the arena for the entire duration of their skater's session. This ensures that a responsible adult is immediately available should assistance be required.
JumpStart, Junior, Intermediate & Senior Skate
The Devon Skating Club encourages parents and guardians to attend their skater's sessions whenever possible. However, we understand that this is not always feasible.
If a parent or guardian is not present at the arena, each skater must have a designated emergency contact who:
- Can be reached immediately during the skating session.
- Is able to arrive at the arena within 15 minutes if contacted.
- Is authorized by the parent or legal guardian to make decisions regarding the skater until the parent or guardian arrives, if necessary.
- Will remain with the skater until the situation has been resolved, allowing coaches to return to supervising on-ice activities.
The designated emergency contact may be the parent or legal guardian or another responsible adult appointed by the registering parent or legal guardian.
📋Emergency contact information is collected during the registration process. If your emergency contact changes during the skating season, please notify both your coach and the Registrar as soon as possible by emailing registrar@devonskating.com.
