Adult and Teen Learn to Skate

Teen/Adult Skate… What’s it all about?

Teen/Adult skating is growing in popularity and more and more clubs are offering recreational, test and competitive opportunities to this segment of the population.  Teens and adults can participate in CanSkate and StarSkate programs. 

The Devon Skating Club is offering group lesson formats where teen and adult skaters of all levels can skate at their own pace, learn some new skills and get some exercise. It’s never too late to learn to skate! Come and join in the fun!

Who’s it for?

For teen and adult beginners, as well as for those wishing to continue a healthy, lifelong participation in the sport they love and learned at an earlier age. Teen and adult skaters can also participate in the StarSkate program.

Teen/Adult Skate Classes

Teens and adult Skaters participate in the Teen/Adult CanSkate sessions. The Teen/ Adult CanSkate session begins with a coach-led group warm-up, followed by group lessons which focus on Balance, Agility and Skills.

Teen Skaters ready for figure skating skills may be eligible to join our Junior StarSkate program.  Adult Skaters ready for figure skating may join the Adult Junior StarSkate program in a group lesson format. 

Assessments

Adult StarSkaters may take Skate Canada assessments (although not mandatory). Coaches will inform skaters when they are ready for an assessment.

Skate Canada Helmet Policy

All skaters in our CanSkate (Pre-CanSkate, CanSkate, Teen/Adult CanSkate, Pre-StarSkate and Pre-StarSkate Academy) programs are required to have a CSA approved helmet that is no more than 5 years old. Please refer to the sticker on the back of the helmet to ensure your helmet is not expired. Skaters (regardless of age) are required to wear a CSA approved helmet until they have earned the Stage 5 badge and have permission from their coach.

Clubs and skating schools must ensure this policy is enforced during all skating activities including competitions, carnival days or any other special on ice activities throughout the season for this level of skater.

In general, anyone who lacks good control/balance when skating forward, backward and has difficulty stopping, as well as maneuvering around obstacles on the ice must wear a CSA approved hockey helmet.
